On a mobile homepage selling a high-consideration medical device, first-time visitors had to rely purely on brand claims rather than real customer experiences. The opening experience relied on a standard hero slideshow, completely stripped of star ratings, review counts, or customer feedback above the fold. Data revealed a severe trust gap: only 8.8% of mobile homepage visitors ever reached a product page. To solve this bottleneck, this experiment tested whether placing social proof right in the opening viewport (homepage above the fold) would give hesitant shoppers the confidence to keep moving forward.
Hypothesis: If verified review proof appears in the opening viewport, first-time mobile visitors get the immediate credibility they need, leading to higher product exploration and purchase conversion.
What we A/B tested:

The winning variation: “Rating Bar” variation won. A clean, high-visibility rating bar right below the hero gave first-time visitors immediate validation without cluttering the mobile screen.
The impact:
- +26.7% Add-to-cart clicks
- +17.0% Reached checkout
- +20.3% Revenue per visitor
Takeaways:
- Trust helps shoppers buy, not just browse. Social proof didn't just bring in more browsers; it helped on-the-fence visitors to actually complete a purchase. Early trust signals are best for turning existing interest into sales, not just for boosting clicks.
- A little “proof” at the right time goes a long way. A simple, one-line rating bar was enough to move the needle without cluttering the screen.
